The Seychelles Independent Newspaper has announced that, in collaboration with partners in the media, it will lead a protest march on April 20th 2024, at 10 am with the aim of vehemently denouncing the alarming surge of gas attacks that have hit various areas on Mahe over the past two weeks.

The march will start from the Stad Popiler in Victoria, and members of the community, from every walk of life are being invited to participate and lend their voices “…to the collective outcry against the gas attacks threatening our nation”.

In a press release, the Independent newspaper said: “These cowardly attacks, targeting not only schools but also crucial institutions across the country, represent a reprehensible assault on the innocence of our children and the collective well-being of all Seychellois citizens.

“The Seychelles Independent Newspaper, alongside our media allies, firmly condemns such despicable acts and stands in unwavering solidarity with the affected communities.

“The repercussions of these heinous attacks extend far beyond the immediate harm caused to individuals and institutions. They pose a grave threat to our national economy and undermine the very fabric of our society, directly contradicting the best interests of the Seychellois people.

“In response to this urgent crisis, we call upon all Seychellois citizens to join us in this all important demonstration of unity and patriotism in line with the Preamble and Article 40 of the Constitution.

“Now is the time to set aside our differences and stand together as one cohesive force against these evil atrocities. By uniting in strength and resolve, we can send a powerful message that such acts of violence have no place in our beloved Seychelles.

“Together, let us uphold the values of peace, justice, and solidarity that define the spirit of Seychelles”.
