Elon Musk announced on Sunday that his AI venture xAI will be part of his social media network X as well as a separate app. He also revealed that xAI launched its first AI model, a bot called Grok, which was made accessible to all X Premium+ users on Friday.

xAI's mission is to develop AI tools that 'help humanity in its quest for understanding and knowledge' and that Grok can answer questions with some humor.
In July, Musk, known for his criticisms of Big Tech's AI endeavors for their censorship, introduced xAI, branding it as a "maximum truth-seeking AI." Its objective is to comprehend the fundamental aspects of the universe, directly competing with Google's (GOOGL.O) Bard and Microsoft's (MSFT.O) Bing AI.
"Grok, functioning through the X platform, enjoys real-time information access, presenting a significant edge over alternative models," Musk further emphasized.
Although X, the social media entity formerly recognized as Twitter and currently under Musk's ownership, operates independently from xAI, the two entities maintain a close collaborative relationship. Moreover, xAI collaborates with Musk's electric car giant Tesla (TSLA.O) and several other companies.
Last week, during the inaugural global AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park, England, Elon Musk conveyed to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak his belief that AI stands as "the most disruptive force in history." Musk speculated that this technology has the potential to assume all tasks, effectively rendering today's employment landscape obsolete.
Notably, in 2015, Musk played a key role in co-founding OpenAI, the organization responsible for pioneering ChatGPT and generating a worldwide fervor for generative AI technology. However, he relinquished his position on the board in 2018.
