President Weah Announces Three Days of National Mourning After New Kru Town Incident

President George M. Weah has proclaimed a three-day period of National Mourning in response to the tragic loss of lives due to a stampede in New Kru Town near Monrovia, as announced by the presidency on Thursday. The unfortunate incident occurred during an open-air church gathering.

In light of this tragedy, the President has directed that the national flag be lowered to half-mast at all public edifices throughout the Republic during this mourning period. He expressed deep sorrow over the national tragedy.
A statement from the presidency read, "The President has instructed the police to undertake a comprehensive investigation to determine any potential criminal responsibility. He has urged the LNP authorities to ensure a swift and meticulous inquiry, emphasising that individuals found responsible will face legal consequences."
Furthermore, President Weah has solicited the assistance of health agencies, including the Liberian National Red Cross and the Disaster Management Agency, to support the ongoing treatment and recovery operations.
Offering his profound condolences to the affected families, President Weah expressed gratitude to all those who rendered immediate assistance to the victims following the stampede.
In related news, the inauguration ceremony for the new Duala Market, previously scheduled for today with the President's participation, has been indefinitely postponed out of respect for those who lost their lives.
