Ramkalawan will not meet Reparations Committee but honour TRNUC process

President Ramkalawan stated categorically yesterday that although he has no intention of meeting with the Victims’ Reparations Committee of the aftermath of the TRNUC, he had every intention of following the process of the TRNUC and form a committee to wrap up its unfinished work.

Ramkalawan said that he had received too many insults from the committee to want to meet them, but stated that the country’s financial situation did not allow it to fork out the sums of money that was being reclaimed.

He was speaking in an interview with TeleSesel’s journalist Clive Camille, relayed on YouTube.

He said that the existence and process of the TRNUC was a fully bi-partisan matter, and noted that both former President Danny Faure and himself had offered on behalf of the state their apologies for those who had been affected in the TNUC cases.

He said that the appointment of the committee was imminent.
